Recently a student`s mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills are emphasized. Nevertheless, the students solved the problem associated with a given type of problem solving using mechanical algorithms. With this algorithm, It`s hard to achieve the goal that recently emphasized. Furthermore It may be formed error or misconception. However, consistent errors have positive aspects to identify of the current cognitive state of the learner and to provide information about the cause of the error. Thus, this study tried to analyze the error happening in the process of solving gearwheel-involved problem and to propose the correct teaching method. The result of student`s error analysis, the student tends to solve the gear-wheel problem with proportion expression only. And the student did not check for proportional expression whether they are right or wrong. This may be occurred by textbook and curriculum which suggests only best possible conditioned problems. This paper close with implications on the discussion and revision of the concepts presented in the curriculum and sequence related to the gearwheel-involved problem as well as methodological suggested of textbook.

This study aims to develop strategies for improving the affective characteristics of Korean students based on results from international achievement tests. In pursuing the goal, different research methods are employed including a)analysis of the theories and literature regarding the affective domains included in PISA and TIMSS studies; b) analysis of the current situation and needs of Korean students with respect to the affective factors based on PISA and TIMSS results; c) case studies of best practices in relation to students` affective domains in Korea and abroad; and d) development of strategies for improving and supporting Korean students` affective characteristics. In this paper, first of all, relevant theories on affective characteristics in literature are introduced. In other words, the concepts of three affective domains in question - interest, self-efficacy, and value - are reviewed, and their definitions for the present study are made. Also, teaching strategies and support plans for improving students` affective factors are extracted from previous studies. Furthermore, this paper reviews recent trends in research on how the affective domains are related to mathematics education and how one can teach them effectively. The teaching guidelines for each affective domain are developed according to the instruction principles extracted through literature review in general for all subjects. Based on the results of the findings mentioned above, this paper establishes and suggests the guidelines on how to teach mathematics reflecting the affective characteristic.

Lacan gives an explanation on our real actual world by the concepts the "Real", the "Imaginary" and the "Symbolic”. Although this three registers are not far from each other, they never can be unified. Among animals, only human has interest in the "truth" The concept of truth is discussed and debated in several contexts, including philosophy and religion. Many human activities depend upon the concept, which is assumed rather than a subject of discussion, including science, law, and everyday life. Language and words are a means by which humans convey information to one another, and the method used to determine what is a "truth" is termed a criterion of truth. Accepting then that "language is the basic social institution in the sense that all others presuppose language", Lacan found in Ferdinand de Saussure`s linguistic division of the verbal sign between signifier and signified a new key to the Freudian understanding that "his therapeutic method was “a talking cure" The purpose of this paper is to understand Lacan`s psychology and psychoanalysis by using the mathematical concepts and mathematical models, especially geometrical and topological models. And re-explanation of the symbolic model and symbols can help students understand new ideas and concepts in the educational scene.

The present study seeks to provide an easy path to differential perceptions of students at the upper high school level by applying a story telling method and also, characteristically, to earn some time for class discussion by reducing learning time for simple calculational procedure through Computer Algebra System(CAS) tools. This study offers a clear example of storytelling textbooks through Sage. Hence, the study aims at enabling students who have practiced contents with Sage tools to deal with diverse and complicated calculation problems, if they learn to build up mathematical formulas for those problems.

Now, most of programs develop were presented as form of item pool by dividing problems by section and level for the level differentiated course, so the utilization is decreasing at the field caused by unconsidered school underachievement elements by achievement. Especially, the study on teaching materials and effective measures map for mid-low level students with low utilization is more urgent. Therefore, in this study we will promote teaching method for improving learning achievement at high school. The development teaching materials(the performance evaluation and diagnostic assessment, reconstruction of textbooks) will be applied to classes for the underachieving students directly, and the achievement in the experimental class was significantly improved compared to the comparative class and the meaningful conclusions could be drawn as results of conducting same assessment based on the experimental class and the comparative class.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the aspects of analogy of high school student`s thinking process revealed in the inquiry activity with synthetic division. The case study method of qualitative research was conducted with two high school 10th grade students. Structure-mapping model(SMM) of Gentner and similarity frames which were proposed by other researchers were utilized to analyze the data. Two students used analogy as a tool and they could discover synthetic division of more than 2 degrees, but they revealed different levels of mathematics discovery depending on the different degree of analogical thinking. Surface similarity in the process of inquiry activity played a vital role in analogical thinking. We asked students to explore and discover analogy based on structure similarity. Analogy based on the systematic approach made it possible to predict upper domain. Analogy based on the procedure similarity induced internalization. We could conclude that analogy has instrumental, heuristic and reflective characteristics.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of essay writing-centered mathematics instruction on problem solving and mathematical deposition in the elementary school. For the present study, two 6th grade classes with equivalent achievement in terms of problem solving and mathematical disposition based on the pretest. A total of 15mathematics lessons focused on writing activities were administered to the experiment group for two months, while the textbook-based traditional lessons were given to the comparison group. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were adopted to analyze the data. The results of the present study showed that essay writing-centered mathematics teaching is statistically superior that the textbook-based mathematics teaching with respect to students` problem solving and mathematical disposition. In addition, it was evidenced that essay writing-centered mathematics instruction makes an influence on students` perceptions toward essay-based assessment in a positive way.

This study starts from the problem that although the solution premise the generality in algebra, a lot of students don`t understand the generality of algebraic solution. We investigated this problem to understand cognitive characteristic of students. Moreover, we tried to find the elements which helping students understand the generality of algebraic solution. The purpose is to get the didactical implications. To do this, we had investigated the cognition of twenty middle school students for generality of solution. As result, 70 % of them didn`t cognize the generality of solution. We had a personal interview with four students who showed a lack of sense of generality of algebraic solution. Putting into three action which we designed to help the change of their recognition, we observed and analyzed students cognizance change. Three action is the check of accordance for individual results, the check of solution accordance for different variables and the check of arbitrary variables. Based on the analysis, we discussed on the cognitive characteristic of students and the effect of three action. We finally discussed on the didactical implications to help students understand the generality of algebraic solution.
