The purpose of this study was to discuss the example that developed geometry model textbook based on storytelling using real-life context. To achieve this purpose, we first elaborated the meaning of the textbook based on storytelling with real-life context, and then we discussed the outline of the story and the summary of each lesson. This study defined the storytelling textbook with real-life context as the textbook consisting of activities that explored and organized mathematical concepts by using real-life situations as materials of stories. The geometry textbook we developed employed two real-life materials, a map and a set square: we used a map for the coordinate geometry and a set square for the equation of a line. To attract students` interest, we introduced confrontation between a teacher and two students and a villain. We implemented experimentation with the textbook based on storytelling in order to verify its validity. The participants were 25 students that were enrolled in a high school in Seoul. Among them, 17participants were surveyed. Students` answers from the survey questionnaire suggested that the geometry textbook we developed based on storytelling helped them learn mathematics and that the instruments such as a map and a set square helped them understand mathematical concepts. However, their opinion implied that the story of the textbook needed to be improved so that the story reflected more realistic contexts that were familiar with students.

In this research, in order to investigate the principles for the development of mathematics textbook for decision-making based on storytelling, we conceptualized the educational meaning of decision-making and specified the principles and the methods for the textbook based on decision-making. We illustrated the principles and the methods by the cases from the model textbook for the conditional probability that we have developed. We discussed the implication for the future development and implementation of mathematics textbook for decision-making based on storytelling.

Among five types of the model textbook based on storytelling, the type of ‘Inquiry into history of Mathematics`` focuses on adapting the logic of mathematical discovery to the organization of mathematical contents. It enables students to recognize that mathematics has been developed by human needs and creativity while they are engaged in the story about knowledge formation. Moreover the textbook offers the context in which students are able to understand mathematical insights and logics hidden in the subject matter, so that they can reinvent and develop mathematical knowledge. In this study, we found the principles for development of the textbook based on storytelling for ‘Inquiry into History of Mathematics’ by analyzing the chapter about ‘Complex number and Quadratic Equations’ of the model textbook. The chapter was implemented in classroom environment and students` understanding of the subject matter and their perception on the textbook based on storytelling were surveyed before and after the implementation. The results showed the possibilities of adapting the textbook based on storytelling and we suggested some implications for further development.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the principles for the development of mathematics textbook based on storytelling through literature review, textbook development, and classroom implementation.5)Mathematics textbook based on storytelling has been developed to help students learn mathematics interesting and meaningful. The principle for the development principles include as the principle of context, process-oriented, communication, and diversity. The developed mathematics textbooks was implemented in high school mathematics classes in order to investigate the effectiveness of the textbooks. We analyzed the data collected by the survey and the interview to find that the mathematics textbook based on storytelling had positive effect on teaching and learning of mathematics. We discussed the implication for the future development and implementation of mathematics textbook based on storytelling.

In this paper, we explore the possibility that ladder diagram games can be used for the introduction of the function and composite function. A ladder diagram with at most one rung is a bijection. Thus a ladder diagram with r rungs is the composition of r one-to-one correspondence. In this paper, we use ladder diagrams to give simple proofs of some fundamental facts about one-to-one correspondence. Also, we suggest Story-telling for introduction of function in middle school and high school. The ladder diagram approach to one-to-one correspondence not only grabs our students`attention, but also facilitates their understanding of the concept of functions.

Mathematics textbooks based on storytelling in elementary schools started to apply a new method of teaching math to the first and second grade students from this year. By surveying the actual responses of both in-service and pre-service teachers, this study aimed to find out critical opinions to assist future math teachers. The survey was conducted among 124 in-service teachers and 112 pre-service teachers, asking what they needed for the understanding of the storytelling theory and for the preparation of actual lessons. After analyzing data, we concluded that in-service teachers have more positive opinion about the efficiency of teaching and learning mathematics based on storytelling, but more negative opinion about the appropriateness of storytelling as a means for teaching and learning mathematics than the pre-service teachers in elementary school. The in-service elementary teachers also want to have well-organized teaching resources for storytelling and development. Through a lot of training, more and more creative ways of applying the storytelling method can be learned and concrete presentations of real lessons need to be shared. Approximately 87% of pre-service teachers believe the storytelling method is a necessity in teaching math.

In this study we developed a textbook for middle school mathematics, especially focusing on the 1st grade, based on storytelling, did experimental lessons using the developed textbook, and surveyed the responses of students to the lesson by three kinds of questionnaire and teacher interview. The results of this study can serve as basic data for other researches about storytelling-related education in school mathematics.

This study is basic research about actualizing mathematical teaching and learning based on storytelling that is raised for reforming school mathematics education. We have developed mathematics textbook model for 2nd grade in middle school based on storytelling. It was applied in the middle school classroom and the results were analyzed. In order to develop the mathematics textbook model, the procedures and methods of development were extracted from the literature. And mathematics textbook model was developed in accordance with the process and methods. To apply it in school 20 hours of instruction were carried out. For the analysis of the results, we conducted a questionnaire survey, the teachers` interview, the affective test and math anxiety test. Through the results of this study, we will be able to check the possibility of storytelling in mathematics class. And it will be also the foundation of mathematics teaching and learning based on storytelling in middle school.

This research is about storytelling in middle school geometry. This study is basic research about actualizing mathematical teaching and learning based on storytelling that is raised for reforming school mathematics education. In order to develop the mathematics textbook model, development of procedures and methods were extracted from the literature. And mathematics textbook model were developed in accordance with the process and methods. Examples are presented in terms of the development of material with ``story as a communication tool``, ``familiar story as a script`` ``universality of the world or simulation of life as a story``, ``story as a means to foster creativity: story making``. Through the results of this study, we are also able to check the possibility of storytelling in mathematics class. And this study will be the foundation for teaching and learning using storytelling.
